Nice! I like it price seems a bit high,  it you probably won’t find a nicer one either

Ehh, kinda what it was made for, so I don’t see it as being an ‘extreme alternative’?

That said, I don’t care how cherry or low mileage it is, $7000 for a 32 year old S10 is laughable.

Holy crow that thing is clean.  Slightly CP on price, but damn where would you find another one?

You don't think the guy who buys Toyotas and Toyotas and sometimes Toyotas looking at a domestic qualifies as alternative?

The interior in that thing is mint! It’s not a refined ride but it’s cheap and easy to maintain and should make a fine camping/utility truck. Plus, easy LS swap!

MIL had a Jimmy until she pulled out in front of a semi.  It got totaled but she is fine.  The 4.3 is stout.

I quite like the boxy S-10s, and that is crazy clean... But I’d so much rather buy a less-nice one without the sad, pathetic, anemic and fragile 2.8. That’s a body on frame  frame 4x4 truck with roughly 110 hp and, like, 3 lb-ft of torque. 4.3 or bust.

Yep, interesting good drive train that has 32 years of dry rot on hoses and brake hoses . I feel it has very high utility for the money as long as you are willing to sweat the details such as dealing with brittle vacuum hoses and pre OBD1 computers.

Maybe kind of CP. My dad had one of these back in the day, I want to say it had that same upholstery pattern. I think it was around 12K new, discounted no doubt. His was brown on brown, which was interesting. Same engine, too, which I recall had issues with exhaust gaskets. He hated the handling of it, afraid it would roll. I don’t recall it ever breaking down, but it didn’t seem to age well, not a paragon of ref inement . My mom had a Tempo at the time, which felt like a generation more modern vehicle in comparison . This one appears to be pretty basic spec which could be bad or good, I swear my dad’s had power stuff and an 80s looking stereo.

Knock the price down by a third or half, then maybe. But you’ll need to care for it and keep it dry, or it’ll age 20 years over a winter of left out in the damp.

I had an 86 black over red like that in highschool. Good rig. Took me camping and some mild off roading. Rust in the rockers was an issue and leaky glass seals.

You want the 4.3, from what I’ve heard. I’ve never driven one with the 2.8, or any first gen, but they’re supposed to be pretty anemic. The 4.3 also has the benefit of being extremely hard to kill.

The interiors rattle, nothing is refined really, but they’re cool looking little things. My 97 was reasonably capable off road, got decent high way fuel economy, and never let me down. Typical GM quality issues and stupid things like needing to move the steering box to change one of the spark plugs, but they’re dependable and pretty capable.

I drove a ‘95 Sonoma for a year at an old jerb, I would never ever ever ever own that generation of S10. It was definitely reliable but it was so... 90s.

They are aggressively 90s, but part of me loves it. I still harbour a want for a ZR2

https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/ctd/d/2004-chevrolet-blazer-zr2-4x4/6678314783.html

I can’t praise the Vortec 4.3 enough, so my vote would be for this one, though it isn’t quite in the Seattle area...

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/d/1992-s10-blazer-4x4/6687656945.html

This one doesn’t say if it’s the old V6 or a Vortec, but it looks good enough that I want it either way

Sooooo fucking clean. But for $7k you could fly to the Southwest and buy something just as good for much cheaper. Got a buddy flying down from Seattle in December. He’d probably be down to drive something up for the right price. But goddamn I’m a sucker for clean steelies.

Impressively clean, but seems too expensive for one of those that is essentially a project vehicle. That thing is so low mileage that putting it back into regular service likely reveal many things that would need to be refreshed for it to be reliable. Dry rotted hoses and brittle seals would probably be just the beginning. It would be a better vehicle if it were slightly less clean, but was someone’s (perhaps not every ) daily driver with more miles on it. I don’t recall hearing about those being especially reliable when they were new any way...

These things are cool as hell but the best thing about them was the 4.3; everything else just falls apart around it. This is missing that piece as well. Cool, but seriously, these trucks are junk.

K5 Blazer. The S-10 is not a Blazer, it’s an atrocity. Even as a drive my 85 K5 every day, and have owned/built five before this one, I would go 4Runner all day if I had the money and the mechanical familiarity to work on the IFS front end...
